A FLAWLESS, EVEN COMPLEXION – the new ideal of beauty! A flawless skin indicates beauty and femininity. In ancient times, light skin without disturbing irregularities was connected to aristocratic origin and dignified appearance worldwide – a light skin presented a luxury lifestyle without working in the sun.
Even today, the wish for an even complexion is in demand more than ever. A light, radiant and even skin not only presents youth and attractiveness for people in the Far East. Uneven pigmented skin actually increases the perceived age of a woman.
But what exactly is hyperpigmentation (pigment spots)?
Pigment spots are disorders of the natural colouration of the skin. These are formed due to the improper formation of skin pigments – locally or over a wide area. They are darkened patches of skin that are light brown to black in colour and can vary in size and shape. There are different factors that can cause such discolouration. With acquired hyperpigmentation, these are usually inflammatory skin diseases, UV exposure and hormonal changes. Most relevant is the skin pigment melanin because these factors stimulate its production. An overproduction of melanin – but also a disturbed reduction of the skin pigment – can lead to an accumulation of melanin and thus cause hyperpigmentation. However, inherited pigmentation irregularities such as freckles or nevi (pigment mark) cannot be influenced with beauty treatments.
Beauty measures and ingredients
There are several beauty treatments and products that can help to get an even complexion. The key functions of brightening treatments are:
- Reduction of the pigmentation process (inhibition of the enzyme tyrosinase)
- Reduction of existing pigments
Depending on the type of hyperpigmentation classical peelings, Microdermabrasion, GREEN PEEL® herbal peeling or apparative treatment measures can be considered. Cosmetic care products with an active agent complex from different active substances can reduce the appearance of dark spots when applied on a regular basis. A complete (100%) removal of the spots is not always possible, especially if you are frequently exposed to the sun.
A variety of ingredients prevents or reduces the disturbing pigmentations. With the efficacy, the aggressiveness towards the skin is unfortunately increased – irritations are the consequences as for instance with kojic acid. Many brightening ingredients may effectively inhibit the tyrosinase and thus the pigmentation process, but can harm the cells at the same time. For this reason, some brighteners have already been forbidden for the use in cosmetic products such as hydroquinone.
Dermatologically-developed care products which are effective AND skin-tolerated are best. A balanced combination of active ingredients ensures a gentle brightening of hyperpigmentation and helps to reduce the formation of new ones.
